“Call for Artists”

Victoria Main Street Public Art Initiative and Fund

Victoria celebrated its official bicentennial date on April 13, 2024, the 200th anniversary of the day Martín De León received permission to established the colony of Nuestra Señora Guadalupe de Jesús Victoria.

To celebrate this milestone, we ask that submitted art be in some way related to or inspired by the rich history of the Crossroads area, or otherwise connected to it (such as by the artist’s personal history in the city) in a meaningful way. Artists are encouraged to include in their submission a statement about the artwork, including how it connects to the rich history of the Victoria region.

· July 31st, 2024: Call for Art ends

· August 2024: “Selected Art” is identified, and artists contract with the Victoria Main Street Program. Artists exchange original artwork and non-exclusive use contract in exchange for Selected Art prize money

· September-October 2024: Selected Art is displayed in a public place, with the community voting for the “Top Prize”

· October 2024: Top Prize is awarded!

· October 2024 and beyond: The Victoria Main Street Board of Directors uses Selected Art to raise money, 100% of which goes directly to creating more public art in downtown Victoria Texas!
